Body & Paint Work

My paint work will be done by ALLKANDY.COM on the wet wet!

This is how it looks for right now.

And these rims wont do for what I have in mind

But these will work for me instead

Foose Nitrous Legend Chrome Wheels
Size: 20x8.5
Finish: Chrome
Bolt Pattern: 5x5
Offset: 7
Tire Size: 255/45R20

Interior

Here is the current interior I will be taking the speaker out of the door panels and rear panels and fixing that. I am also taking out that bench seat in front.

I will be putting in Buckets seats from a GTO, I will also be putting in a Custom console with B&M mega shifter.

The interior will be redone in black and blue with silver accents to match the new paint.

I am also going to redo all the wood grain with new mahogany, and Install a Sun roof.

My interior will look close to this when done

but the gray will be blue

Here are some pictures of what I have done so far.

Drive Train & Swap!

1983 Cadillac Coupe Deville D'Elegance with 454 Big Block

As with any engine swap, modifications are necessary and expected.  The great thing about the Deville is that they have PLENTY of room for a big block! Modifications are actually few. I wanted a more street legal setup and maintain air conditioning & emissions.

ON WITH THE PROJECT!

VICTIM: 1983 Cadillac Coupe Deville

FACTORY ENGINE: HT4100

NEW ENGINE : 7.4L V8 454 CID Click here for New specs.

TRANSMISSION: Mad Dog 700R4/2800 stall

Onto the swap!

Manifolds
I used Factor BBC Manifolds, As you can see the fit is tight, but they fit really well.

Valve Covers
I used chrome factory height valve covers without any problems.

Water Pump
I am using high volume water pump!

Power Steering
I Used the old lines from the TH4100 power steering pump they fit perfect! None of the hoses require relocation or modifying, so that is simple enough too!

Fuel Pump
I am using the same fuel pump that came factor in the Deville since its 16 PSI.

AC
I am using the 1990 style AC pump but I used the AC lines from the 83 Deville, I did have to bend the lines a little to get them to fit but it does work!

Wiring
I am using painless wiring kit part# 60101, I disconnected all the old factory harness to motor I am only using the factory hot wire for coil and the factory wire for starter and of course the factory wire for AC. (I will be running new wires for idiot lights by hand, using the factory lights)

Emissions
I  installed 2 new catalytic converters. (Due to having  a bigger motor and I wanted more air flow)

Hood Clearance
You are going to be very limited to what air cleaner you can run.

Front Suspension
The additional weight of the big block is going make the front end VERY "spongy" if you keep the stock front coil springs.  It looks cool, because it lowers the front end about 2".   Also, it is good for drag racing, because it allows the front end to raise up faster and get the weight transfer to the rear-end on launch.  Unfortunately, it kills handling.  So if you want it to be a daily driver, and handle well you will need to upgrade to stiffer springs.

Cooling System
I used the factory radiator from the TH4100 and I used 2 electric fans with a built-in shroud (Flex-A-Lite 480). Works great and keeps the big block cool! (you don't need to but I also ran another cooler for the transmission)

Transmission and Cross member
I using a 700R4 with the factory cross member, It will be modified (for duals), and I will use a throttle cable bracket to adjust the TV cable.

Driveshaft
I had a custom one made that is one solid piece, not like the 2 piece drive shaft from the factory.

Rear End
This is a definite weak point of Deville's.  The factory rear-end is the weakest rear-end GM has produced.  It has a 7.5" ring gear and wimpy 26 spine axles.  I am just going to recommend that you upgrade your rear-end.

Rearends that should fit from the following cars

1987-1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham  rwd

1977-1996 Chevrolet caprice rwd

1980-1996 Oldsmobile delta 88  rwd

1980-1996 Pontiac full size rwd

1980-1996 Buick roadmaster rwd

Battery
I extended my starter cables to reach the factory battery location.

Here are some pictures the way it is the day I bought it with the 472 already installed.

Here are some docs I used to pick my transmission set up.

All GM Transmission specs .PDF

Transmission swapping Guide .PDF

Then to my surprise I looked underneath to find someone changed the rear end and drive shaft already!

know I need to find out what rear end it is and gear ratio
